Construction paper, dot stickers and a marker are all you need to make this fun holiday learning game. Perfect for toddlers and preschoolers!
I love when I can make a simple craft and turn it into a learning game for my preschoolers. This fun Christmas tree counting activity is so easy to make and helps kids practice counting and fine motor skills. Simply make a Christmas tree out of construction paper, write a number on it and have your kids put dot stickers on the tree. It’s that easy. No need to be the world’s best crafter to make awesome learning activities for your kids!
Supplies Needed
- Green and brown construction paper
- Dot stickers (Here’s what I use!)
- Black marker, tape, scissors
How To Make A Fun Christmas Counting Game For Kids
Step 1 Gather 2-3 sheets of green construction paper and cut medium sized triangles (about 4 inches wide and 4 inches tall). While you have your scissors out, cut a few small brown rectangles for your tree stem.
Step 2 Tape a brown rectangle to the back of each triangle Christmas tree. Turn the paper tree over and write a number on the front of each tree. For younger kids I like to start with 1-5. If you have older preschoolers, you can work up to 10 or even 20!
Step 3 Time to play! Have your child identify the number written on the front of each construction paper Christmas tree. Then add the same number of dot stickers to the Christmas tree. The perfect counting game for kids that also helps with fine motor skills!
Want To Use This Counting Game Over and Over?
My daughter loves this Christmas counting activity so much, she wants to play it almost every day. As you can imagine, I don’t want to continue to cut out green triangles, so I laminated this counting activity. If you want to be able to reuse this game, laminate the Christmas trees before your kids add any dot stickers. When they’re finished counting and playing, simply peel off the dot stickers and your Christmas tree counting activity is ready for another day of play!
This is one of my favorite holiday themed activities for kids. It’s the perfect way to keep kids entertained during long family gatherings or car rides to Grandma’s house! Your kids will work on number recognition and also increase fine motor skills by peeling the stickers. A win-win in my book!
