Gather Your Supplies
- Construction paper in any color
- Scissors
- Pencil and black marker
- Ruler
- Tape or glue
- Googly eyes (but you can also draw the eyes on with a marker if you’re out of googly eyes.)
How To Make A Paper Roll Octopus
Step 1 Draw 9 lines about 3/4 to 1 inch apart starting 4 inches down from the top of your paper. These will be the paper octopus tentacles.
Step 2 Now use scissors to cut along your drawn lines. Cut your final line the full length of the paper. You’re also going to cut the last tentacle off so you have a total of 8. This will make attaching the paper roll together much easier. Check out the picture below for help.
Step 3 Curl the paper tentacles by rolling each one around a pencil. Do one tentacle at a time to make it easier. Add a cute little octopus face using googly eyes and a sharpie.
Step 4 Curl the ends of your paper together and attach with a piece of tape or glue. If you’re having trouble keeping the paper roll together add a staple or 2 along the seam. Now your paper octopus craft is finished!
These paper octopuses are so easy to make and look how cute they are! My daughter made a whole family of paper roll octopuses! Not only did this easy craft keep my kids entertained while we made the octopuses but afterwards while they played octopus family in their doll house. That’s a win in my book.
This paper craft is great because it’s made with cheap craft supplies like paper and tape that you probably already have at home. I love when I have all the supplies for a fun activity for my kids. No spending money at the craft store. This budget friendly craft is not only perfect for preschoolers but for older kids as well. I feel like a paper roll octopus might have a spot in my son’s school diorama soon!
