Okay, if I’m being honest, I used to be one of those moms who wasn’t a big fan of Valentine’s Day, but this year, I’M ALL ABOUT IT! I’ve been decorating the house in “the total Valentine’s Day love spirit”, so when I came across this activity, it was basically the perfect craft for my preschoolers.
Time to break out the fuzzy pipe cleaners and pony beads for this colorful heart craft! ❤️
Now that my 2 year old daughter is finally old enough to do crafts with (maybe that’s why I’m all LOVE & HEARTS this year), I knew she would be thrilled to do this project with me.
This holiday craft activity is not only fun but great for those sweet little fingers and their fine motor skills. Watching the kids focus as they put the beads on the pipe cleaner is just so, so precious.
This Valentine’s Day activity is great for girls and boys of all ages! My 2 and 4 year old preschoolers were all about making this colorful pipe cleaner craft. It’s so awesome when you can find activities they both enjoy doing together! A little bit of bonding time never hurts.
To help shape the hearts, I used one of the kids’ play-doh heart shaped cutters and it worker perfectly, but you could also use a cookie cutter, or if you can’t find anything handy to use around the house, use your crafty skills to free-hand it. Hearts come in all shapes and sizes, right?
How To Make Pony Bead Heart Wands
Gather your supplies!
- colorful pony beads
- a variety of pipe cleaners
- heart shaped cookie cutter
- Wrap one end of a fuzzy pipe cleaner around a heart shaped cookie dough cutter or play dough cutter to form the heart. You can also free-hand it if you’re scrappy. I suppose a heart shape is rather simple.
- Once you’ve shaped the heart around one end of the pipe cleaner, give it a small twist to keep it in place.
- Now, let the kids use their fine motor skills to lace the beads onto the straight part of the pipe cleaner. Finish it off with a small twist on the bottom to keep the beads from falling off. That’s it!
Once this craft is finished, these adorable wands can be used for imaginative play and dress up. My daughter wanted to use them to cast magic spells on her older brothers. Isn’t she sweet!?
This magical Valentine’s Day craft is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and even older kids who love getting crafty with their hands. Even this busy mom of 4 had fun! 😍
