Turning a scary prehistoric animal into a cute little, handheld creature is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages, especially if you have boys who can’t get enough of the infamous T-Rex or Mr. Stegosaurus.
Supplies Needed
- Cardboard
- plastic bottle caps
- googly eyes
- glue
- pencil
- crayons
- scissors
Instructions
- Using a pencil, trace the shape of your dinosaur head onto a piece of cardboard. As you can see, it does not have to be perfect! This dinosaur is perfectly fine with the upside-down-boot look.
- Use a sharp pair of scissors or an X-Acto knife to cut it out. Use the scraps of cardboard to make the triangular spikes for his back at the same time. Most cardboard boxes have the 3-D ridges on the inside that you see in the photos. Simply peel off the paper on one side to expose it.
- Color and decorate your dinosaur however you’d like with crayons or markers. The kids will have fun with this part! Get creative with whatever supplies you have on hand.
- Glue on the cardboard spikes to the back of the head along with the plastic bottle caps and googly eyes.
- That’s it! Your preschoolers and toddlers will have fun using this craft for imaginary play, but this adorable little dinosaur is also fun to simply admire as he hangs out in the house.
We just turned recycled materials into a prehistoric masterpiece! Try making several dinosaurs in different shapes and sizes. These little creatures are fun for little kids to play with, plus they look really cool sitting on a book shelf, night stand, or window seal. Roar!
