A fun and colorful craft combined with an exciting outdoor adventure. Sign me up! Get your kids outside this summer with this inexpensive boredom buster that will keep them entertained for hours and away from that darn television.
Whether you want to explore your own backyard, your local park, or the great outdoors on your next camping trip, this exciting outdoor activity is captivating for kids of all ages, especially toddlers and preschoolers who are still learning color recognition and love exploring the beautiful plants, flowers, rocks, and sticks in the world around them.
Materials Needed
- A clean & empty egg carton
- variety of paint colors
- paint brush
Gather your supplies and let’s get to painting! Even young children such as preschoolers can easily paint the inside of an egg carton with its naturally made compartments.
I suggest assisting your kids mix the paint colors because you want to have a variety of colors that are commonly found in nature. I recommend several shades of green, red, orange, pink and yellow, as well as a few basic colors such as brown, grey, and white.
If you plan on using this egg carton scavenger hunt in your own backyard, choose colors that can easily be found there so that your kids don’t get discouraged while exploring.
Allow the paint to dry and then head out for an adventure in your own backyard! Encourage your kids to seek out items to match each colorful compartment such as wild flowers, berries, leaves, sticks, rocks, dandelions, and more.
This hands-on activity helps kids with their observation skills, color recognition, and appreciation for the world around them. It’s also a lot of fun for mom and dad! I’ll take any excuse I can to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine. 🙂
Don’t forget to pin and save this awesome outdoor scavenger hunt for later!
